I don't know if it's suggested before, but at the moment time trials are usually flat- or flat+hill-orientated. Why not make a time trial for climbers in the Giro or Vuelta?

The last stage of the Giro/Vuelta could be a time trial with a lot of climbing, this would also be very exciting for the yellow jersey!
But the question is: replace a flat(-hill) time trial, but then the Giro would be more mountain-orientated, or replace a climbing stage, but then you will have 3 TTs in one round.

Or, instead of adding it to a GT, add a Mtn TT to start the Tour de Romandie (there is an open date prior to that race) making it another 4-day tour. Romandie is a mountainous race already, so it would fit in while adding something new.
Or, add a Mtn TT to the Tour de Suisse. There is an open date two days prior and another open date two days afterwards when it could fit in the schedule. It would be a 5-day tour then.
