Maybe I'm not alone, but I think it's to common some names are twice in the same division. Also 90% of the names there are, are very strange names. Maybe there should be introduced more common and just more different names. This way we wouldn't see that fast two times the same name and the names would be more normal So just introduce new and more common names, I don't know how. There will probably be a simple way... This is not a difficult thing, but it can take some time so there probably will be someone (or more) who can handle it It's just an idea like another, but this one is not so difficult to realise I think And I would like to excuse me again for my bad English, I hope you can get the point

There are 3 of Danila Albusel, Gheorghe Istratescu and Lupul Stanescu each All are romanians!!!! I guess it's the poorest collection.

I was one of the first to deliver IP a lot of names for his database so I feel partly responsible for this issue. The problem I see with your idea is that you want to reduce (only the more common) and increase the names at the same time. So first let 's forget the reducing of the uncommon names part (maybe only for the surnames) as for the common names they (or most of them) are in the database for sure but because of a mathematical approach a common name has the same chance as an uncommon name (and believe me there are more uncommon names as common ones in this country). The solution for having less doubles or triples is simple just deliver sources for new names to IP, when you only have a few he won't be bothered but when you can deliver thousand(s) it would get interesting.

Schizm: But if we increase the more common names (more possibilities), the strange names will be few (in %) and that's good. boucthesurvivor: Well, I am talking for Belgium. But isn't there in France something egal? It's not so difficult to find new names: nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lijst_van_voornamenThe second list are all names for men that could be used in Belgium

believe me there are few common names who are not in the database already in your very small list in the url you're talking about surnames I have much bigger lists af which I informed IP months ago : www.statbel.fgov.be/figures/download_nl.asp#2 in the first excell-sheet only (about 2006) there are 3170 first names (boys only) (sheets about 2000-2005 are also available)

Ok Then there is no problem Maybe a little idea for later to increase the chance for a common name? Nothing to say anymore, can be closed

Thank you, Schizm! Schizm: But if we increase the more common names (more possibilities), the strange names will be few (in %) and that's good. boucthesurvivor: Well, I am talking for Belgium. But isn't there in France something egal? It's not so difficult to find new names: nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lijst_van_voornamenThe second list are all names for men that could be used in Belgium For France, we have a large database, all common names are in. I can't remember the number (not at home...) but it is huge. So no more problems of homonyms, I think. But as you said, rare names often occur... I asked IP if technically a coefficient would have been added in the excel files (translation section), but he never answered. Schizm : Walloon names have a very French sounding, for most I think, they are few used for French people, you know a guy with such a name may be Belgian, but it is not shocking for us if he is French.

I thought a bit further on this since I PM'ed you : And actually the situation is Belgium is a real mixture : for instance our prime minister is flemish and is called Leterme which is a french sounding name while a Walloon vice prime minister called Reynders which is a common flemish name We live in a small country so I think (almost ?) every belgian lastname seems believable for the whole country, if the first name that goes with it doesn't really match the last name we just assume that it is a flemish person with walloon ancestors or vice versa.

Anyhow, you can easily add an artificial coefficient to the common names by giving those multiple instances. If we want more Tom's, Nick's or Stijn's in the Belgian teams of Peloton, just add 20 of each in the surnames database. And only add one for the really uncommon ones.
