New season, new thread.
Welcome to Joachim, Houthakkers, Mancunians, Bergtoppen and Pelevialli. This division has been fairly competitive the past few seasons, and fairly talkative. Here's to an active message board and a competitive season.

And welcome back to Sforsato... I left him off the first welcome and then realized I only listed 5 teams. I recognized the name because he was here in season 8.

Hi, I'm the manager of joachim1107. After 5 years in the back of division 2.2 I degradated. I hope to win some more money in this division because last seasons were hard on the finacnial level. I don't know how strong this div is but I will try to promote again.
I took most of my points on sprint and youngster races.

Please don't open new divisions topics because I could have used a different method for the divisions and teams promoted or relegated could be different because of the restructuring of the divisions.

It is a pity to be back in 3th division, but it was a fair fight My riders only competed in the three big tours in 2:2 (2nd and 3th in Giro, 2nd and 3th in Tour and 1st in Vuelta)
I also sold some good, but too old riders, so i don't know how my younger team will compeed
Good luck to all!

Well, now we have a schedule in place so we can begin to look at the season.
There are relatively few races I feel like I have no shot in for the first half of the season (I generally only plan up until the Tour at the beginning of the season... I put the second half in when the Tour is approaching).
Even the flat races which I suck in have enough hilly attack points to give me some hope. It may be false hope... but it's hope none the less.
The one I'm completely unsure about is La Fleche Wallone. 61 flat, 51 hill, 15 mountain, 77 downhill... but it's a sprint race (no attack points) that finishes with a mountain section. I'm not sure if that's just a pure mountain rider stage because of the finish and the short section length or if something else is needed.
Paris-Nice is also confusing. That 34 km downhill section with an attack point at the end of the final stage? A mountain/hill ITT before that? 2 flat/hill stages to start the race? I have no idea what a GC rider for that race would look like... other than being good at everything.

Well, second in the GC is a good result, but I was hoping to be in the top 5 in the individual stages and that didn't happen until the TT.
Too early to tell how I feel about the season yet. Really don't have a mountain heavy stage until the second of T-A (though there are some that end on climbs). Tough to get too much of a measure before the mountains come. I do have to make some BIG noise on the hilly stages to have a promotion shot though.

I'm always unsure if it's appropriate to make low effort attacks in day 1 of 3 day tours. Sometimes you can gain a few minutes (Goorts got 2:40 on the non-attackers today for example), but does losing that extra 5% over the next two days eliminate the benefit from that?
Hard to say. Guess we'll see.

Guess we'll see. In the Tour of Oman Aubert had attacked the first two stages at low effort and after 2 stages he already stood first with still 75% fitness left. So I think it would be best if you haveat each stage 1cyclist at high effort for the syage win and 1 at low effort for the GC.

Hmm... not sure I made the right call today.
I thought with the parcours I could finish with the lead group with Seabra saving fitness, but he fell to group 2 (losing 37 seconds).
4 fitness gained for 37 seconds? Probably a bad trade on my part.
