If he has a lower fitness, he will race longer and increase the chance to fall. But he will also cycle slower and so the chance to fall is decreased. So it comes down to how it is now: no difference. then what is meant by this? i can't follow... BUSTED!

I guess this just was a way to clarify (with an example based on real life) why chances should be the same for every cyclist. Not a description of how it really works in the Peloton game.

does fitness get taken into account when working out who wins sprints and mountain stages, its just 1 of my sprinters has 16% more fitness and still is losing sprints??? This is the explanation of the Wiki about how the sprint skill is used in races: (http://peloton.wikidot.com/races) Intermediate sprints: cyclists that are selected for intermediate sprints, will race 3 kms on sprint skill before every intermediate sprint instead of the other cyclists that will simply race on the skill appropriate to the terrain.
The sprint skill is used a second time, but in a completely different way, at the end of each race (except in time trials). To assure that sprinters will perform better the more flat the race is (as it is in real life), one fourth of the amount of flat kilometres is added for each race. All cyclists will do those extra kilometres entirely on the sprint skill. E.g.: If a race counts 44kms of flat, 11 kms of sprint will be added for all cyclist, using only their sprint skill. So as you can read, it's important to have good primary skills in order to reach those intermediate sprints (and the finish) before the others. Fitness is an important skill for that.
