Exciting day there in TDU. All weekend long, I couldn't sleep, thinking about the tactics for today.
Its a poisoned gift that Hurlus stands on 1 in the GC. The plan was just stage win, but now its of course tempting to go for the GC and green as well. But ... that will cost him 3 weeks of rest, missing his main goal of the spring classics: MSR. Stick to the plan, or fall for temptation. Hmmm ...
The answer at 1pm.

Hurlus did get the mountain jersey as Bonus. But the big surprise was Lange. The last minute starting list did his job and took us by surprise. Good riding of my former rider Picard as well. 3d place for Thor. Congratz all, And my mistake with Arbia was not to be repaired. Congrats to Low for Thijs taking YC.
Anyone who has some predictions for tomorrow? Roma Maxima is not for the classical sprinters. It has to be one with all roudn qualities as well. Down hill finish has to suit him. Who fits this profile?

Oh my god, how this forum can be so active ? Welcome to everyone and have a good riding season ! This current 5th position in the div is my aim. Unfortunately, i have missed some stages (recuring problem...) but it seems that the strong competition will not allow me to be so lax... I will try to participate a little in the forum too No particular ambition for Roma Maxima. By the way, Auge have some skills to assert. We will see !

For tomorrow... Exciting race. Lot of things can happen. Most of the time, the traditional flat sprinters do not make it to the finish. As we see as well that many teams are giving youngsters a chance as helpers, the final group might consists out of only a few all round riders.
Favorites:
Low brings old Krumrey again. his flat skills are excellent and sprint is pretty good, but are the other skills up to the job?
Rarau is for sure to bet on Frenay. His delighted mood and the downhill finish might be two things that make him favorite.
VdGG might bet on Cappellazzo. His sprintpowers are top in our division. But with 75% fitness and some weaknesses om other skills, I fear he will not be there at the finish.
Devils: not much is known about Auge. A real dark horse.
Thor: Brinks or McColeman. Probably the last one, being the best sprinter. But can he survive the climbs?
Naspa: another strange line-up. We get really worried about him. Maybe he should spend less time analyzing and criticizing others and give a bit more attention to his own strategies. Van Nes maybe?
Slayer: I would say VanBessien is only "very happy" and will suffer from this "handicap" in his fight with Frenay for first place.
Dustin: the raw talent Rubbers will be set to attack and attract all attention, while Ghyse would be probably the man to sprint for a place in top 5-6-7?
Dirk: not the strongest line up. Damn or Camacho for a place in top 10?
Antwerp: this race used to fit Fraga like a glove. Is he getting too old now? For place one yes, but top 5 is still feasible.

So no MSR for Hurlus, but this 2 jerseys were worth it, of course. Lange catched us by surprise. Good rider with good tactics ... hat off. Green was a nice consolation price, till I suddenly saw Hurlus took the mountain jersey as well. Somehow, I thought there were 2 moutain sprint, so an unexpected godsend.
Bandilla attacked just on 75%, I saw ? Remaining at 74%. A little mistake from VdGG ? Thought he was the biggest competitor, after seeing Rohart taking it easy.
For tomorrow, my riders deserve a day off, and some younger riders can try to grab their chance. They are all 26, so no ambition at all. Yup, Vanbesien will be the sprinter on duty, but his sprint skill isn't sufficient to aim for a win. Even a podium would be a surprise. Still, time to show they are worth their place in a 2:2 Peloton.

Ah, btw. Chosen has not revealed his plans yet. He might have some contenders for place 1. Krolak if he can overcome the mountain part. Machado or Decaux if they progressed enough on hill. And JOan might have a surprise for us. His sprinter Clementino is still there.

Naspa, nice preview (I like that) but, the dangerous factor should be Naspa, you never know what he shall do (look at his GC victory last week)

Happy with the team performance. They controled the race, but that final climb was just too hard for Vanbesien. Happens. And a shame Tijmense felt on that last part. It would have been nice if they finished together as one team. Still it was a moral boost.
Nice sprint of Auge. And congrats to the other 3 for surviving this hard-fought speedrace.
