Was indeed a very difficult one to predict with all these falls I don't think I've ever seen so many teams (5!) loosing their main guy because of a fall. I like winning of course, but not really in this way to be honest... Haha, no man, this is perfect. All competitors dropping and taking the win yourself, best scenario possible . Most likely quite a few of them have poor or average secondaries as well, so it's all in the game. Congrats on the nice win, I'm sure we'll be seeing Thienpondt more often this season.

Most points this week for bam, which brings him to the second spot just 4 points behind eboese. My team is still hanging on at the third place. The first win of the season for Zberg leads to a third place in the week ranking and a fifth in the division standings. Further, ElGringo scored his first points, which results in tenth place in division standings right now, but places 9-12 are very close.

Nice race today. Due to the late attack points this race, one could really make a difference with good helpers to either break the peloton or to keep a less good flatter in the peloton to attack at the final hill parts. Some managers did this first thing quite well, which made that the first group counted only 9 riders at the foot of the Cipressa (first attack point).

Due to the good results in the youngster race En Danseuse moves to the safe 8th place. At the top, winner-of-the-week Op kop de sloot in takes the lead passing de Droeftoeters. My team still tries to hang on but loses a bit on both of them. No changes in rank for places 4-6 who all have the same place in the week rank as they have in the division standings.

Don't expect too much from my team in Pais Vasco either. With both Malton and Grazziotin in the line-up of the Droeftoeters and Nieberg for Op kop de sloot in I think both these teams will perform well. So, probably I'll lose quite some points on them. My next big chance will probably be the Volta classic.

Although I think I still scored quite a number of points, it was a very disappointing week for me. A lot of races that really used to fit my team well, but not even 1 win and Bam increased his lead. This confirms it for me that his team is most likely going to win it this season, especially since most of my riders will get only get worse in the weeks to come.
Especially Paris-Roubaix hurt, great job by Gonzalez on grabbing 1 and 2 though!

But indeed, I think I used to loose more than 200 points in weeks like this on you: both Paris-Roubaix and a mountaineous tour have not often been (or are not) my cup of tea, while those are the terrains where MacColman, Malton, Guth and Grazziotin easily beated the others. I was quite surprised this saturday (when I came back from my 1 week holiday) to see that I was still at the first place in the division and even beated Malton.
Until now it is really the most exciting season in years, I think. Many more cyclists that can compete for the win compared to previous seasons ("young" cyclists can now occasionally beat the oldies), and also the division standings is quite close for some spots. Would be fun if it stays like this throughout the season.

Just a matter of opinion. The reason that more cyclists win is this calender which is very one-sided. It is an allrounder calender only. There are simply no races for specialists. You need to have sufficient skills in all four terrains to win a race, and when it looks like a specialist race at first sight, then, when you look closer, the first attackpoint is a terrain outside the specialty. For Example the first stage of Pais - Vasco, looks like a race for the non hillers, but first attackpoint is hill, Paris - Roubaix. Looks like a special race for the flat sprinter, but first attackpoints are hill and downhill, Milan - San Remo, let's put 10 km of mountain in it to make sure that all flat/hillers have no chance. Today we had a hill race, but also more than enough mountain, downhill and flat to make sure that the pure hill specialist are ruled out. Of course the first attackpoint wasn't hill. And there are a lot more examples to find. Every season you needed at least two or three flat/hillers, now one is sufficient. At the end, 90% of the races can only be won by cyclists who have high skills in all four terrains. Tailor made calender for the allrounders. That is why there are a lot of other cyclists are winning, but hardly from other teams. But maybe that is also good for a season.

It's true that in this calendar there are not so many races for monoskill cyclists, especially if you compare it to last season. That is an intentional choice I made when designing the calendar. The idea behind this calendar is that there are more races where different types of cyclists have chances and therefore one has to made choices what type to use . In my opinion this gives more interesting races than monoterrain races were we know after the first or second part (or even before the race ) who is going to wi . It's a different philosophy than last seasons calendar when there were, I think, quite a lot of monoskill races and one had to chose were one puts in his best specialist on some terrain to avoid the better ones. By the way, that is also not a bad way to design a calendar, just a different view point . In general, I think, designing a good calendar is not an easy task. Its very difficult (if not impossible) to come up with a calendar that everybody likes. This is because there are a lot of things that has to be taken into account. Among others this includes the total amount of flat, hill, mountain and downhill over all races, the distribution of these terrains over the races (more monoskill vs. more allround races) and how races of the same character are distributed (clustered or spread over the calendar), the distribution of terrain in a race (terrain of attackpoints and finish terrain, long vs short stretches, steep hill/mountains vs more moderate ones) and the distribution of the number of attack points per race (some with a few (<=5) some with a lot (>10) and some in between). For tours also the distribution of terrain over the stages, the number of tours with an update, the distribution of sprint and mountain sprints in tours and the order of the races matters. Further, it also depends on the available stage profiles (of course one could create new profiles, but at some point time is limited and also these profiles are expected to look to some extend on the real race profiles they are based on). All the above things are also a matter of taste, and therefore it is good that every season another person makes the calendar such that there is variation .
Finally some specific comments to the examples you gave. First of the number of races with low mountain kms. As you can see in the table the number of races without, or only a small amount of mountain kms is comparable to season 18 and 19. Its also about what you define as flat/hiller. Is it a cyclist that has no mountain skill or could he survive a small mountain?
Season | Normal races with no mountain

| <=10km mountain

Milan - San Remo is one of the new profiles I made and was intended to be a version for punchers. As it is a race with late attack points one could put in strong helpers to make a difference. Also there is a long flat part after the first climb to came back to the peloton. It is actually the 5th version of this race and 3 out of 5 contain mountain (and of those 3 races this one contains the least mountain). I based this profile on the real profile of the 2018 version found on www.la-flamme-rouge.eu/maps/viewtrack/188977, as you can see the last kilometer of the passo del Turchino is steep (9%) and it's also reasonable to model the Capo Berta as a 7% mountain part.
For Paris-Roubaix I selected the race out of 3 possible options. One of these contains mountain, which is not what I wanted. The other one also has the first attack point on hill, but a 7km stretch instead of 5km. I agree with you that a version with the first attack point on a flat part would be nice (but must be created then). However, in our division the first two cyclist were not in the first group after the first attackpoint on the hill and are also well-known flat cyclists.
Volta Limburg was indeed atypical with the attackpoints, but the podium consisted of Lasat, Raab and Miranda which are all good hillers. In the first stage of Pais Vasco, Depla was not in the first group and ended second in the same time as the winner, while Engel (one of the 4 cyclists in the first group) ended only 10th. So it was not only the first attackpoint that mattered in this race.

I agree and also hope it stays exciting. Last season by this time de Droeftoeters was already 650 points ahead of you and won 40% of the stages. The effects of ageing are also clearly visible and it will be harder and harder for the oldies to win.
