With rising wages every time I re-negotiate the salary of the cyclists and inability to be competitive in my division I am thinking of giving up the game.
For lower divisions unless you are in the top three it is almost impossible to make ends meet. Stronger teams can hog and clean up all the money on tours and races leaving 4th placed teams and lower with the scraps. This leaves the game too unbalanced for developing sides in my view.
I have done all the right things to max out profit such as sack my youth coach, max supporter sales for merchandise, make investments to gain 10%, min wages by committing to 15 races for riders (and giving healthy bonus payments).
any suggestions?
Other games have game mechanisms to counter balance this but peloton gives too many advantages to strong teams.
- Why do wages need to go up so much each time you sign a new contract - this encourages selling cyclists and buy new all the time.
- With a good management strategy the strongest cyclists can effectively clean up - make it harder to win all the races for just one team.
- Youth coach wages discourages teams creating their own youth cyclists - lower the wage and sign on fee for youth scouts.
- time served managers have a massive advantage and head start on new managers - help new managers get a foot hold in the game rather than making the game a baptism of fire for new teams.

What is approximately the average amount of income you have weekly?
I can imagine it's a struggle. Even though I'm winning 50% of the races in 1.1 currently I'm still losing money in some weeks due to the huge wages and bonuses I have to pay my riders. Quite often I actually lose money these days when winning races/jerseys. Of course that's fine for me as I have enough profitable weeks as well to compensate that, but for the teams who win less it must be a big problem.

i want to give some advices but site is not working.
Maybe at first, when you start a team, you need ONLY to train cyclists with a trainer with flat OR mountain 18/20 And to sell your stars / cylists who are full trained to flat 12 for example.
And when you have for example 5.000.000 to think at results too.
A cyclist not trained cause loss.
I dont have so good results (only top 5 in 2.1) but always i was healthy with finances.

When you negotiate contracts, you can offer yoor cyclist a wage of $1. Do that as often as you need to make him angry. Then he will ask for a fee to start negotiating. Pay that fee and he will ask then the lowest possible wage. You'll have to accept that wage. If you don't want to pay that wage, the only other option is to sell the rider. When you accept the wage he proposes, his mood will go back to satisfied.

I think I mentioned it before, but Peloton is a 'the-winner-takes-it-all' game.
My team was the perfect example of a 4th-place-team. In my first season in 1:1, I was extremly happy with a 4th place. Close to the top, a nice race, the best of the rest. A 4th place seems great, but ... when it comes to points and money: 4th place is crap. The winner gets nice money, and a lot of points. Number 2: still nice. But starting from number 3, it gets much less, and if you are 4th or 10th ... that doens't matter: thats just crap.
I can imagine very well starting from 3th division, this gives a big financial problem.
They tried to help with higher price money, but to me, this was the biggest mistake ever. By the ratio it is now: the bigger teams earn even more. The teams ending off the stage got a little more too - correct, but in ratio with the number 1: they lose much more, what make the big teams richer = better.
What you can do about it ? Not much. Try to ride as good as your cyclist can and hope on a win from time to time. A win helps a lot, in points, in money.
I agree less with the other things you mentioned, Wheelnut. This is a typical management game, so its not only about races, its also about managment, making a good plan - short and long term, think well what to do if you have some money ... I like that. Can you affort a big gun ? Yes or no ? Its worth to have a big gun who gives you a lot of points, but one who ask 40K salary. Thats an interesting part of the game. What should I train ? All skills a little, or all decent ? Or just the good FA ? Or go for a good TT/sprint ? And whats a good TT ? Is 12 ok ? Or you need more, risking lower terrain skills ? Its up to managers to find a good balance.
My 'problem' is more the big differences in ratio between the winner of a stage and the riders 4 till 10.
Your last point about the time served managers: I think this is an old problem. In this phase of the game, old cyclist retire, so the older teams have to find a new plan too. Schizmano, Franconia, PAN, myself and some other have to put a step aside what give other managers like Op Kop De Sloot In, Tossboom, ... a chance to end up high. In this phase of the game, its the moment to make a good plan, and this moment is really the biggest chance to find a way to the top.

Thanks guys for the advice...
Thanks for the $1 tip Ab Normaal.
My income last week is as follows...
Last week Income Sponsor $25,625 Races $105,710 Bonus $0 Other $325,815
Total $457,150
Costs Cyclists $328,800 Bonus $0 Staff $144,154 Interest (5%) $0 Other $461,200 Total $934,154
I was trying to keep my own youth pulls and training cyclists from birth to grave! This does not seem possible now in the confines of the game.
I am now looking for bargains on the transfer market.

Thanks Newborn and Continental...
Try to answers some of your questions.
Q1. how much supporters do you average have? your income "Other" seems so low opposite to the costs "other"? Or did you buy cyclists last week? no did not buy cyclists.
A1. Merchandise sold: Biddon: 3103 items sold for $15.00 ($31,030.00 profit) Cap: 3103 items sold for $20.00 ($31,030.00 profit) Sportsbag: 3103 items sold for $40.00 ($62,060.00 profit) T-shirt: 3103 items sold for $30.00 ($46,545.00 profit)
Total profit made: $170,665.00
Q2. or did you buy a serious amount of merchandise last week???
A2. Bought 3000 this week so probably similar last week of each item.
Q3. how you dont win so much money? i see you have a lot of points especially on season 8 , 12 , 13? Have had lots of money when I have topped lower divisions.
A3. I have fair to say wasted some in the past buying expensive British cyclists and youth scouts.
Q4. your cyclists have 12 or more on a skill? for what they have huge wages?
A4. Best cyclist top skill is hill 11. Some others have hill 10 and 9. Older cyclists have nearly all skills above 7 but no real peak in any score. i can send you my xls of my cyclists if you care to look at them? Some have been with from the beginning so wages only seem ot go up each time. I try to have long contracts and use min races to negotiate lower wages.
Q5. Do you have a lot of injuries on your cyclists?
A5. No not really. A couple have more injuries than others i.e. Dilgard and Kalich.
I will study the players you suggest as you say.
I bought some cyclists! K. Allais 7,0,1,0,4,2, 1,3,2,1 174cm, 72kg, age 21 A. Chrtien 8,7,2,1,10,9, 10,9,7,1. 210cm, 98 kg, age 32 S. Cordero 7,3,2,0,3,11 4,9,7,7 197cm 92kg age 29 L. Guiot 9,0.7.1.9.4 18,19,13,2 178cm 72kg age 35
