I'll be happy when the Classics finally end and we get some serious mountain stage racing. Always manage to be in the front group, but can't get the finish right.... Milano - Sanremo: #1 Hoste, Himalaya (my best 9th) Ronde van Vlaanderen: #1 Bondu, Ikis Cycling Club (my best 3rd) Gent - Wevelgem: #1 Vandenberghe, Ikis Cycling (my best 5th) Paris - Roubaix: #1 De Schreye, Himalaya (my best 4th) Scheldeprijs: #1 Hoste again!, Himalaya (my best 2nd) Amstel Gold Race: Fokkens, Himalaya (my best 2nd) edit/update:La Fleche Wallonne: #1 Manteca, Hounds Liege - Bastogne - Liege: #1 Amel, Hounds (only BOT competitors)

Hounds put a strong TT squad into Giro, and it paid off nicely in Stage 1 TTT with a win and some nice gaps.
These five also have strong Steering and Balance, so I'm counting on that to avoid time losses on the 9 road stages.
Hard racing in second week - 7 consecutive days on the bikes!

Sir, Yes, Sir!!
Not much to report, which explains my lack of reporting.....
TdeF off to slow start for my team. - we don't have the Flat skills to do well in the opening stages. No stage wins this week. - I sent my TTers to Eindhoven, so we will lose some time on those stages. - we started a strong group of Steering/Balance riders (worst Str=12, worst Bal=15) and should do well if the race turns into a demolition derby. - we should do well on Mountain stages. Only Akumestu and Remo are also training Mtn, and they joined 5 weeks into the season, so I expect an edge in the Alps and Pyrenees. The other two participating teams (himalaya and Elsemheide ) train Flat.
Stage 1: My best Flat rider stayed in the lead group of 5. The other four are a minute down in the second group. So 5 in Top-18. Since the 3rd group finished another 1:49 back of 2nd group, I think our podium will come from the top-18, although a strong TTer could come back. Six of the 18 are already racing at less than 90% so they won't be at 100% next week, and should fall off the pace. Jerseys: Mountain (Belleau)
Stage 2: Surprise! Finished 2, 3, 4, 5, 18. 12 cyclists within a minute of the lead, and 4 are Hounds. Nice result for two flat-ish stages ridden on 70%. Marchionni's fall (Bal=16) put him almost 4 min off the pace, so he will go stage hunting later on. Jerseys: Yellow (Fife), Mountain (Belleau), White (Friedkin)

How many competitors do you have for tdf?(non bot) no wins in first week sounds familiar;-) i'm actually starting to doubt if i can win the gc, there are few mountains.. Only stages 7, 8 and 9. I'm starting to doubt my choice of training mountain skill...

I'm starting to doubt my choice of training mountain skill... 25 competitors from 5 active teams (24 after my training update ). It's not that active a Division, sadly, although most of the top teams are at the Tour. It's way too soon in the race to predict the podium. A lot can and will happen. I still believe Flat and Mountain are the two primary skills to train in Peloton. It's good that the other four are growing in importance, imo. Kilometer breakdown of current race calendar: Flat kms: 6,178 HIll kms: 2,709 (converted: *1.5=4,063.5) Mtn kms: 2,702 (converted: *2.0=5,404) DwnH kms: 2,523 TT kms: 285 I think the Mountains kms are still the most decisive, and the Tour is a good place to check that out.

Mine - so it's quite possible they are off a bit.
I use Excel to plan races, track results, and track training. Not so bad when the races were the same from season to season. I'm excited to see we will get a new (or modified) calendar next season, but I'm not looking forward to redoing my spreadsheets. ;D

TdeFrance Update:
Stage 3 went okay, as four of my cyclists only lost 1:02, but then I lost my leader during the Sunday training update.
Stage 4 was not pretty. Belleau rode well to finish in first group. Everyone else was dropped, and Friedkin lost 3+ minutes, his white jersey, and podium aspirations with a flat tire. (It did raise his Steering from 18.9 to 19).
Stage 5 was okay as everyone finished in the second group, losing 1:30. Belleau sits 3rd overall. Jerseys: Mountain (Belleau)

Tour Talk: Stage 6: MacAlilly finished a respectable 5th. No falls or flats on TTs, so I did not feel the need to break something.
Stage 7: We're back, baby! Mountain trainers finally have a good day. -Friedkin wins and jumps to 2nd in the young rider competition. -Belleau finishes 2nd and racks up 23 KOM points on the day to take a commanding lead in the mountain jersey. And, oh by the way, pulls on the 'Mellow Johnny'. -Marchionni (Steering=16) flats and finished 8th. -MacAlilly falls (Balance=15) and finishes 21st. Since he is my worst placed rider, he will be going for the stage win atop L'Alpe d'Huez. Jerseys: Yellow (Belleau), Mountain (Belleau)

nice to hear that! I didn't do too well :-( Hopefully alpe d'huez will be your stage! nice to hear that! I didn't do too well :-( why let macalilly go for the stage win at alpe d'huez? he might finnish at a decent place without the extra effort? Well - you are right - he probably will do okay, and one of my other riders will maybe win even if he doesn't. But....I like winning stages, Bic Mac is pretty far back, and a win will help boost his Mood. He's only had 2 top-5 finishes to this point in the Tour, and he just lost 6:42 on Stage 7. So I'm turning him loose.! ;D
