IP is well aware of the problem, but it is out of his hands. Apparently there are some security updates on the server, initiated by the company hosting the server. IP will contact the hosting company for update news... EDIT : lisa : 100% correct, IP should work out some kind of "unavailability" compensation ! The game has been out of service a couple of times lately and IP apologizes for this although it is never "his" fault. Some processes on the server seems to crash often lately and he is investigating why (maybe the hosting company has got complaints from others as well and hence doing some security updates ? Who knows) I agree with Lisa. Akind of unavailablity compensation in extra weeks premium membership. Since IP is aware of this problem, why can't he put this immediately on the forum? So we didn't have to be concerned about what is happening now. Nikeboy (and some other designers and moderators and...) I really do appreciate IP's work and efforts in the game, but he can not run it anymore on his own. It is really necessary that IP should let you guys/dolls ;D participate in the organisation and the managment of this game.

I totally agree but I have to little IT knowledge (mySQL, C#, html,...) to help him more on this. So actually we need some really good IT guys/dolls ( ) who believe in this project and who want to spend a lot of their free time in developing this game without any financial compensation. Let us know if you think are the correct person... This looks like an ad to me and I am not the person to "hire" people so it is up to IP to decide on this

Hi guys, sorry for the down time of today. The server problems came at the worst time this morning, as I didn't have enough time then to be sure everything was fine.
I installed the latest windows security updates on the server, but in order to complete the installation, the server had to be restarted. So it seems that this didn't exactly work :/ Unfortunately, I was then at work and couldn't do much about it, and I only got home very late. Tomorrow I sort out that the server runs again, move up all transfer deadlines and the calendar so that nothing was changed since Thursday. So the next race should be on Sunday. I hope to have the game back online in the afternoon, so that should give everyone enough time to prepare.
Players with premium will also be compensated for this downtime, by increasing their membership length with 1 week.
Sorry about this, everyone. The server has been experiencing some strange behaviour lately, with different processes stopping for no apparent reason from time to time. I'm trying to figure out was is causing it.

Thanks IP, but imo the week of premium reimbursal isn't even necessary. The money paid is to support you and the game, and if you manage to keep this game running this stable on a Windows Server, you're obviously spending the money well.

Well that's the problem, the game isn't running stable (not the first time this month). So compensation is a normal and logical thing. I appreciate the work done by IP, but still the issue of more people being able to help if there's a problem, seems to be ignored. Seems like something nescessary, because the game is getting bigger. Bigger to handle on your own, that's proven again.

I'm pretty sure my and your definition of stable differ greatly, because as far as I'm concerned this if the first downtime(and thus unstability) this year and although it is prolonged, the cause is still the same. Slower loadtimes generally have nothing to do with stability tbh.
And you have your wish, extra week of premium has been granted. Furthermore for this I don't think having more people available to help would change the situation. If the server is hosted in a datacenter you can't just send someone you know from online there, and even if you (and the security from the centre) would be so strange to allow it, they probably wouldn't even recognize the server if it's in a rack with other servers.
The only thing that would have helped in this situation would be to have the management of the server itself outsourced and extra SLA's for downtime, but those things aren't exactly cheap. Or to run the server itself virtualized on the physical server so that an image can always be restored or moved to another server but again doing this in a professional way would cost a lot more than the premium money can ever hope to generate.
Just think about it, in medium-sized companies you have one admin per 250 machines(if you're lucky), regardless of how many servers there are. (This can of course vary depending on what the company does and if there's lots of specialized software needs) and you guys are thinking that more people to manage one(!) server would have made a difference ...
