He was far behind Virenque, Zülle and Dufaux when there has been the "affaire Festina" in 98. ^^ Anyway, he has no fan in France! ;D

Jalabert and Virenque! ;D In fact, there is no cyclist who is more cheered in France. Some cyclists have good results one year : Moncoutié (win of the 14-juillet tdf race), Vogondy, Chavanel, Brard (last France champion), Voeckler (yellow jersey in tdf after winning the French championship), Dessel (best French guy for last tdf), Casar, etc... But they disappear from podiums as fast as they come... So, no star at the moment... For this year, two young guys are seen to bring back the dot jersey on French shoulders : John Gadret and Rémy Di Gregorio. And maybe they will replace Richard Virenque in our hearts if they are offensive enough.

He has been a kind of star during 2 years, but he's not good enough to win a tour or big races. That was "ephemere".
